A definite "good read" to add to your list. There was enough mystery, romance, good characters, wonderful descriptions and suspense to keep you going back if you can't read it in one sitting. I brought this book along for our winter vacation and had that wonderful experience of not being able to put it down until the last page was read! Great characters that drew you in from the very beginning and I can't believe this is a first novel for Deborah Anne Greene .....so looking forward to more great novels in the future from you!
Romances aren't usually to my taste, but this one was a page turner because it weaves in a quite nasty villain, some hot hunks, and a lot of travel (Las Vegas, The Grand Canyon, etc.). The best parts of the book, for me, however, were the dreamy, loving descriptions of the Western landscapes, in particular the apple groves of Washington, which recalled the excellent Housekeeping (which I'll read again, now).
A story about love, lies and learning when to go it on your own and when to ask for help. Greene sets the stage for suspense with small town politics, family secrets and greed then spices it up with frothy lingerie and romance. Set in the Boundary Country of south central British Columbia and north central Washington, Good Deeds – Bad Deeds is a great cross-border escape for readers.
I need something in my read that's going to draw me from page to page and Good Deeds Bad deeds did that for me. I've always been a landscape guy, and Deborah built the place wonderfully - I've been through the area and it drew those pictures in realistic ways. The characters grew through the pages too, and by the end I felt I kind of got to know them. The plot got me from the beginning, and I have to say that by the last 100 pages or so...I couldn't put the book down. No, I didn't guess the ending.
I can't imagine writing a novel, and for a first work by Ms. Greene, this book is very well done. I've been trying to think how I'd characterize it and the best I think I can come up with is kind of 'Downton Abbey(esque)'. So it leaves me wanting more. Well done Deborah!
